Gmail POP3

These instructions will configure Gmail to pull messages from Office 365 account using POP3. While this is supported, it is not recommended.  The recommended solution for viewing University email through a Gmail account is to setup forwarding in your Office 365 account by following the forwarding instructions.

  1. Login to your Gmail account
  2. Click on the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen, go to Settings
  3. Click on the Accounts and Import tab
  4. Under Check mail using POP3 section, click the Add POP3 mail account that you own button
  5. In the windows that pops up, enter your Office 365 username:
    • If your WUSTL Key username matches the first part of your @wustl.edu email address, enter: yourwustlkey@wustl.edu
    • If your WUSTL Key username differs from the first part of your @wustl.edu email address, enter: yourwustlkey@email.wustl.edu
    • Click Next Step
  6. In the next window, fill in the following information:
    • Email address:
      • If your WUSTL Key username matches the first part of your @wustl.edu email address, enter: yourwustlkey@wustl.edu
      • If your WUSTL Key username differs from the first part of your @wustl.edu email address, enter: yourwustlkey@email.wustl.edu
      • Click Next Step
    • Username:
      • If your WUSTL Key username matches the first part of your @wustl.edu email address, enter: yourwustlkey@wustl.edu
      • If your WUSTL Key username differs from the first part of your @wustl.edu email address, enter: yourwustlkey@email.wustl.edu
      • Click Next Step
    • Password: your WUSTL Key password
    • POP Server: outlook.office365.com
    • Port: 995
    • Check the box for Always use a secure connection (SSL)
    • Click Add Account
  7. When asked, select Yes, I want to be able to send mail through this account and then click Next Step
  8. On the next screen, fill out the following information:
    • Name: Your full name
    • Email Address:
      • If your WUSTL Key username matches the first part of your @wustl.edu email address, enter: yourwustlkey@wustl.edu
      • If your WUSTL Key username differs from the first part of your @wustl.edu email address, enter: yourwustlkey@email.wustl.edu
      • Click Next Step
    • Check the box for Treat as an alias
    • Click Next Step
  9. When asked on the next screen, select Send through wustl.edu SMTP servers and then enter the following information:
    • SMTP Server: outlook.office365.com
    • Port: 587
    • Username:
      • If your WUSTL Key username matches the first part of your @wustl.edu email address, enter: yourwustlkey@wustl.edu
      • If your WUSTL Key username differs from the first part of your @wustl.edu email address, enter: yourwustlkey@email.wustl.edu
      • Click Next Step
    • Password: your WUSTL Key password
    • Make sure Secured Connection using TLS is checked
    • Click Add Account
  10. Wait for the confirmation email to appear in your Office 365 email inbox and paste the confirmation code into the box as requested by Gmail.
  11. On the Accounts and Import tab, locate the entry for your email address under “Send Mail As” and click edit info
  12. Click Specify a different reply-to address and enter your @wustl.edu email address. Note, this may be different than your wustlkey@email.wustl.edu or wustlkey@email.wustl.edu address.
