Email SPAM Filtering

If you need to report a SPAM message that has not been marked as SPAM, follow the instructions below:

  1. Create a new message forwarding the original message as an attachment
    • Outlook for Windows: Highlight the message, then in the toolbar next to the Forward button, click More and select Forward as attachment
    • Outlook for Mac OS: Right-click the message and select Forward Special then Forward as attachment
    • Outlook on the Web (OWA):
      • Click +new mail then click the Open in new window icon, located at the top right corner of the message window
      • Organize your browser windows so that you can see both your mail folder list and your new message
      • Drag the desired email from your mail folder list to the message you are composing
      • Copy the subject line of the message you are forwarding and paste it into the subject line of the new message you are about to send
  2. In the To field of the new email, enter in the addresses: spam@wustl.edu
  3. Ensure the body of the email is empty
  4. Modify the subject and remove “FW:” so that only the original message subject shows
  5. Send the email

If you need to report a legitimate message that has been incorrectly marked as SPAM:

  • Use the same steps as above, but in the To field of the new email, enter in the addresses: notspam@wustl.edu

Note: If you see similar messages continuing to be marked incorrectly, or you do not have Microsoft Outlook, please contact support.
